Church Membership
Church Membership is important to all Christians. Many times the value of church membership has been minimized in an effort to emphasize that it does not save men. While it is true that joining a church does not constitute salvation, there are tremendous benefits derived from church membership.
• The Benefit of Responsibility
You need to feel responsible to be faithful. You should sense an obligation to be supportive in attendance and of all the ministries of the church.
• The Benefit of Spiritual Direction
It is important where you get your spiritual instruction and doctrine. The Bible warns that in the last days there would be false spirits in the world, and there would be false prophets teaching false doctrines. The Scripture teaches that people will be deceived by heresies, and men will turn from the truth and turn to fables (2 Timothy: 3,4)
The church is committed to the preaching and teaching of the truth of God’s Word so that men and women can experience the unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son of God. The church has stood the test of the ages and its doctrines are sound and secure. It is within the confines of the church that one finds direction and guidance.
• The Benefit of Christian Fellowship
The Christian experience is not just a relationship with God, but also a relationship with God’s family- other believers. The Christian life is a shared experience, a shared fellowship and a shared work for Christ. It is through church membership that people of like faith obligate themselves to each other and to God for the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
It is within the Christian fellowship of the church that God’s children are bonded together for a common cause. It is this fellowship that gives you protection, strength and a sense of belonging.
• The Benefit of Corporate Worship
Paul’s instructions in Hebrews 10:25: “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourages one another- and all the more as you see the day approaching.” Every Christian, in order to get right and stay on track, should purpose in his heart to “BE THERE” when the church doors are open. Why is this so vital? Your presence in the worship service is a testimony to believers and unbelievers. You not only receive buy you contribute as you participate in the worship service.
While you worship together the gifts of the Spirit are exercised, for these gifts are for the edification and comfort of the church.
• The Benefit of Support & Encouragement
Everyone experiences discouraging circumstances and various crises in their lives. How wonderful to have a loving and caring church family in times of grief and sorrow. It is so supporting to have a brother or sister come by and say, “I’m praying for you,” or “I appreciate you- you are an inspiration to me.”
Church membership is important because you need the help of others. We need the support of each other.
